More on S.E.X.

Last week, I wrote about Synergistic Energy Exchange, or S.E.X.  It’s when two or more people work together cooperatively to create an exchange of energy.  (Wait, is “work” really the right word here?  Let me know if you come up with a better one.)  As you may remember, I said that S.E.X. is and has always been more about the energy exchange itself than what the bodies are doing.  In fact, the bodies may be clothed, unclothed, touching, not touching- it doesn’t matter.  It is the Synergistic Energy Exchange, not the actions of the bodies without which S.E.X. would not be S.E.X.

Let me tell you about an experience I had recently.  I hold a meditation and discussion group weekly, co-led with one of my local colleagues.  One day after the meditation we were talking about energy exchange.  Spontaneously, one of us said “let’s try an experiment”.  So we all got on the floor cross-legged, held hands, and did a mini-meditation.  I think there were seven of us.  My colleague led us in breathing and focusing on the energy in our chakras (the energy centers that run from the base of our spines to the top of our heads).  During that next five minutes or so, for the meditation could not have been longer than that, I began to feel very good.  By “good” I mean that I felt energized and I was also aware that I was getting turned on.  I didn’t feel the sexual energy so much in my genitals, however, as I did in my sacral chakra, the energy center about halfway between the base of the spine and the belly button. This chakra just happens to correspond to, guess what, sex and creativity.  And I have to tell you, I had not been thinking sexual thoughts during the meditation.  It’s not like I had the hots for someone in the group and it really turned me on to be holding their hand.

Here’s what I learned from all that.  It came to me while sitting there, a revelation, if you will, that ALL energy is sexual energy.  Since we are sexual beings, there is really no separating out between sexual energy and “that other stuff”.  Truth be told, I had already known that on some level, but then I had what’s called a full body learning about it.  As we were sitting there doing our meditation, the S.E.X. was occurring because we were focusing on our breath and our chakras and we were in the same room together.  I believe we could have done the same exercise without even touching and gotten the same results.  Although we surely weren’t having sex with each other in modern terms, I believe we were actually having S.E.X. with each other without knowing it.  And perhaps a better word for that sexual energy is sacred energy.  We were exchanging our sacred life energy with each other and when we do that with an open heart and an open mind, it feels good.  And it brings us closer to God/Goddess/All That Is.

So next time you want to have sex with your partner, consider having S.E.X. with your partner.  You’re doing it anyway, whether you know it or not, and acknowledging what it really is, I believe, can make it a more beautiful, sacred, and Godly experience. And who knows, maybe you’ll even get a little creativity boost out of the deal!
