I’m here in Hawaii for the winter, as some of you already know.

We keep going to a particular National Park that one usually has to pay or show a card to get into. There’s no one at the booth, and the gate is wide open, because so many federal employees have lost their jobs.

I’m taking a risk bringing this topic up, yet I feel compelled to do so.

I’m not okay with what our president is doing. Many of the actions taken go directly against people that I hold near and dear to my heart, such as women, LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and those with major mental illness.

When people first started talking about Nazi Germany being reenacted, I thought they were exaggerating. However, I have changed my mind. And what I keep hearing around me is that no one knows what to do to stop this.

However, today I spoke to a friend who is known to take actions that make a difference. She gave me some resources, which I want to pass on:

  1. 5calls.org – This is a site that makes it very easy to talk to your representatives about how you feel on a variety of relevant subjects. Phone calls are the fastest and most effective way to let your government know where you stand on the issues in question. This is some power that most of us have.
  2. Follow Heather Cox Richardson – She’s a historian and knows what she’s talking about.
  3. Be vocal – If you, like me, are concerned, tell everyone you know what they can do. Go on social media. Speak up.

We are not powerless. We can make a difference if only we take action.
