Hello Friend,
You know how I’m always talking about dismantling the patriarchy? Well, if you don’t know, I definitely am. It’s one of those topics that lives close to my heart because it shapes so much of how women experience the world.

Some feminists say things are still terrible and that sexism is everywhere. And honestly, they’re not wrong — sexism does still exist in big and small ways. But I also hold what might be an unpopular opinion: things are getting better. Not perfect, but better. I really believe we’re seeing more progress, more awareness, and more genuine movement toward equality than ever before.

Patriarchy and A Shift in Everyday Moments

When I was recently in Spain, I discovered a tiny but meaningful example of this. In the U.S., when you order wine at a restaurant, the server almost always hands the tasting pour to the man at the table. It’s such a subtle habit, but it implies that the man is the one who can properly judge the wine — that he is the authority.

But in Spain? The server gives the sample to the woman. Every time. No hesitation. Women are trusted to know what they like, to decide, to lead that moment. And honestly, it felt refreshing. It felt like a small crack in a very old system.

Focusing on What We Want to Grow

There’s a saying that what we focus on grows. So what if we started paying attention to these shifts — the ways women are being honored more? The ways the old patterns are quietly changing?

I really believe that by noticing equality, celebrating it, and expecting more of it, we call in even more progress. And I’m choosing to focus there now, trusting that I’ll keep seeing it grow.
