When I was in college I had one boyfriend, who had experience with very few other yonis, who told me that women have two kinds of yonis: the kind that smell horrible and the kind that don’t. And he mentioned numerous times that he was so glad that I had the “good” kind of yoni.
(Of course, I’m sure he didn’t really use the word yoni, and I didn’t even know that word at the time either.)
Being as inexperienced as I was with other women’s yonis back in those days, I believed him. Why wouldn’t I have? He was the one who had been up close and personal with other yonis, not I. And in our patriarchal society, I don’t imagine hearing something negative about females’ bodies was very surprising.
It wasn’t until years later that I realized: Oh, that was just another part of the patriarchy. Some kind of myth that there is something defective about some women’s yonis. Makes sense.
Turns out the ONLY reason there is ever a yoni that truly smells “bad” is when a woman has some kind of vaginal infection, like a yeast infection or “BV” (bacterial vaginosis).
Otherwise, yonis have a certain smell that can vary slightly from woman to woman, or yoni-owner to yoni-owner (such as an F to M trans person’s yoni on which no bottom surgery has been done).
Similarly, lingams have a certain odor unless the lingam-owner has some kind of infection.
It’s accurate to say that yonis and lingams have different kinds of “musky” smells, but not “bad” ones, if they are healthy.
I’m curious if you ever heard this kind of myth yourself, and if you did, did you believe it? Do you perhaps still think there’s something wrong with the smell of your yoni? Or with your partner’s yoni?
Apparently, our greater society does, as there is now an all-over body deodorant invented by a female gynecologist (!), to make the yoni completely odorless.
The opinions of others about the smell of your yoni do not make them correct though, do they? In fact, many normal humans out there get very turned on by the natural smell of a healthy yoni.
And one of the ways to keep your yoni healthy is not to mess it up by using store-bought products to camouflage its scent, including deodorants, douches, and scented sanitary products. As with many other things in life, natural is best!
