“ULP!”
Some of you may have seen my recent Facebook post when I mentioned something about all parts of my life "working" at the same time? Well, that lasted about twenty-four hours! Literally the next day, I was overwhelmed, unmotivated, tired, and feeling depressed.
So, what happened? ...
What Are We Rewarding?
I think my daughter goes to a "good" high school. By that I mean it is a relatively safe, low-violence place where my experience has been that the majority of administrators and other staff there are engaged and enthusiastic about the work they are doing with our young people. As with many things in life, however, the term "good" is all relative.
I have no doubt that the staff there are well-meaning. And, they are still a product of our society. ...
Let’s Talk About the C Word
I know, you think I'm about to write a blog about the word "cunt", a taboo word for a part of the female anatomy. It's not that I'm afraid to say the word cunt. I'm not. Cuntcuntcuntcuntcuntcuntcunt. See?! It's that today I'd like to talk about an equally taboo word: commitment.
The word commitment tends to invoke feelings of fear and a sense of being trapped. However, that's because many of us have been thinking of it in a way that creates fear. We think that if we commit to something, we need to do it forever. We think that if we don't fulfill our commitments, we are failures....
Don’t Tell The Story
That's the best advice I've heard all week...don't tell the story. During channeling over the weekend, our non-physical friends were talking about manifestation, again- it's one of their favorite subjects. And they said that my friend and I would manifest what we want much more quickly if we stopped with all the negative thoughts, and with complaining about the aspects of our lives that we don't like. For example, they said that if my friend gets to work and someone asks her how she is, even if it took her an extra hour in traffic to get there, she may want to just say "fine", and move on. Or, say: "Well, I was an hour in traffic, but it was fine." On to the next thing, which would be letting it go and creating a glorious day for herself. They further advised that she and I email and text each other frequently, reminding each other not to "tell the story."...
Some Light Heavy Talk
I'm reading this book called Half The Sky. The title is based on an old Chinese proverb that says: "Women hold up half the sky". It's an amazing book. I highly recommend that you all read it. It's about all the oppression that women face around the world, and specifically focuses on the ways that girls are forced into prostitution and raped. Believe it or not, it is not a depressing book. This book doesn't just focus on how men are the bad guys and women are the victims. It gives us all responsibility for creating the world we live in, and for changing it. And it tells many wonderful stories about how a handful of brave people are changing the world....
Is Birth Control Unneeded?
For some reason, I have always had an innate ability to detect when things I was told did not seem "buyable", even from a young age. I can remember as kid sitting in Catholic church and thinking this in my head: Hmmm, now let's see. There are basically two important women in the Bible. One is The Virgin Mary and one is Mary Magadalene. One is a virgin, and one is a prosittute. Something's wrong with this picture! They're not telling us the whole story. Back then, I wasn't able to articulate just what was off, but I knew it was something!
Similarly, ...
What Healthy Grief Looks Like
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but our planet is shifting. There are many changes going on, and with those come other things. Such as people dying. (No, it is not just your imagination that it seems like more and more people are dying lately.) And, relationships changing. Perhaps ending. And other stuff too, but today I want to focus on grief because I think it is something we haven’t been taught well in our society.
So, what does healthy grief look like? It is you staying home and sulking for days, weeks, or months, continuously? Is it you yelling, ...
Why are we Shaming Our Children?
I have been thinking about how we raise our children in terms of the messages we send about sexuality. For example, when I was growing up, one would have thought that sex didn’t exist. I honestly don’t believe I ever heard either of my parents say the word “sex” or even acknowledge that sex existed. Thank Goddess, one of my friends told me (accurately) all about it when I was in fourth grade, or I would have had to wait until the public education day for the official school sex talk.
I did a little better with my own kid. One day when she was about ...
